“As a litigation funder – and I contrast it to being a partner at Kirkland – I see so many more cases now than I ever did when I was practicing law. I talk to people, I follow cases, people pitch us cases, we invest in cases, I talk to knowledgeable people in the field, and we get a good overview of what’s going on. And that is not what a day-to-day lawyer does. I have more comparison points for each case I am trying to evaluate… It is just a different skill set we bring to the table.”
-Jeffery Lula on the differences between his time as a litigator and a litigation funder
In late-September, GLS Principal Jeffery Lula was a guest on the “All Things Litigation Funding” podcast. In their 4th episode, host Ted Farrell interviewed Jeff and the two discussed Jeff’s journey from his time as a bankruptcy lawyer at Kirkland & Ellis running a litigation finance auction, to his current role managing commercial litigation investments at GLS and how he’s learned to assess risk and choosing the most meritorious claims.
In its inaugural season, “All things Litigation Funding” invites those in the litigation funding industry to join host Ted Ferrell where they discuss all aspects of litigation funding and give the listeners a greater understanding of the current issues and recent developments within the industry.
